Red Maple

Pyramidal tree when young, becomes more rounded with age. Leaves are green in summer, turning vibrant orange-red in autumn. The summer green leaves have a bright red leaf-stalk. The red, dioecious flowers emerge before the leaves unfurl. In Chalky soils the growth is stunted. In dry soil and Chalky soils the leaves do not turn to their autumn colour. It is not tolerant of wind.
